THE DA VINCI CODE

My reivew of THE DA VINCI CODE will be summed up in 5 short sentences. They are as follows:

Worse than the Book!
Wait until DVD (if you have to see it for yourself)!
No Oscar for Ron Howard or Tom Hanks!
Slow, Slow, Slow!
Please have Action Movie Director make "ANGELS & DEMONS"! Can you say J.J. Abrams?

Honestly, THE DA VINCI CODE was B-O-R-I-N-G! The screenwriters took what they wanted from Dan Brown's original work and pasted it together with rubber cement. The final 1/3 of the movie moved so far from the novel, I thought I might have fallen asleep only to awake in the wrong theater. This could have been a SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but instead we got a "made-for TV-movie".

What was Ron Howard thinking? Is this the same director who brought us A BEAUTIFUL MIND and APOLLO 13!? Once you get past Tom Hanks "great" hair, you really start to appreciate his lack of creativity for our protaganist - Robert Langdon. All performances were dreadful and I wish I still had my $15.00 to waste on Comic Books.

Stay away ... Forget all the Controversy ... Stay Away because THE DA VINCE CODE just doesn't add up!

SCORE: 4/10 PLANETS

I finally got around to reading the book this past week. My wife had read it right after it came out in paperback and gave it her thumbs up, but being the slacker I am I didn't pick it up off the nightstand until just last week. She wanted to go see the movie so I figured I better get to readin'! Wow, once I started, I couldn't put the thing down. If you put aside the controversial subject matter and just read it as a great conspiracy mystery, it's some really good fiction! I definitely enjoyed it. It is a bit disturbing how convincing he sounds in his presentation of "facts", but I'll save the soapbox on the entertainment world's free reign on attacking Christian values for another time. I will say if this had been a comparable story involving Mohammed and the Muslim faith, then Dan Brown would be fearing for his life right now. Controversy sells, and as the marketing mantra goes "any publicity is good publicity"! A $77M opening weekend definitely supports that claim!

Anyhow, before picking up the book I went to imdb.com and looked over the movie's cast. It made it enjoyable to visualize those actors as I read the book. Like you, we had high hopes for the movie, given the all-star cast and direction. Unfortunately, your review tends to echo a lot of the reviews I've read. People Magazine gave it 1.5 stars. Entertainment Weekly gave it a C+. USA Today gave it 2/4 stars. I would say we're taking your advice and waiting for the DVD... but I'd be lying... we'll probably go see it anyways.

I guess it's time for me to read Angels & Demons. I've heard it's better than the Da Vinci Code. I'm with you, if JJ Abrams were to do that movie, WOW! Until then, at least we've got the Lost season finale this Wednesday!

$77 Million is Amazing! Don't wait for DVD, go see it now so I can hear your thoughts.

Make sure you read ANGELS & DEMONS ... Great Book and I read in a trade paper that because of DA VINCI's success they are planning on filming it soon. Note to the producers ... Please replace Tom Hanks with Christian Bale. Someone make it happen ... PLEASE!

Well, if the $77M total wasn't enough... consider that was just North America. It grossed $224M worldwide. Sheeze.
‘Da Vinci Code’ a world-wide hit at box office.

I'll keep you posted if/when we get around to seeing it...

still haven't gotten around to seeing Da Vinci Code, but did just get back from vacation where I finally read Angels & Demons. Loved the book even more than Da Vinci Code, which is saying alot. It read a lot more as a fictional novel, unlike the Da Vinci Code which unfortunately can be interpreted as factual. Hope the conspiracy theorists go back and read this one, too. I'm with you, though... I hope they do make it into a movie!
